Our eco friendly paddleboard blog a few years ago was one of our most popular publications. It's time to update the list and see what companies are leading the charge in 2026.
Paddleboards can be difficult to maufacture in and eco friendly way and to dispose of once they have reached the end of their lifecycle. Most of us who love to paddle also love the environment and don't want our no longer useable paddleboard to sit in a landfill from now until who knows when. So what options are out there to lessen our negative environmental impact.
Pro tip - buying the cheapest board you can find will likely lead to pre-mature failures that are difficult to repair or not repairable. This means your board is going straight in the landfill, and you are spending more money on a new one.
Materials we are looking for in board construction:
Recycled plastics
Bamboo
Cork
Non-toxic resins (Surftech's GreenPoxy)
Biodegradable components (BLOOM foam deck pads made from algae and sustainibly harvested cork)
Pro tip 2 - Exposing your eco-friendly board to extreem heat and cold is not advisable. Even on a less eco friendly board with petroleom based resin extreem conditions can degrade resins (glue) holding your seams together. Plant based resin may degrade even faster.
Eco friendly boards still contain military grade PVC for puncture resistance and long lasting durability. Made by SeaLion.
What to look for when buying:
ECOBOARD CERTIFICATION - Multiple Levels - Seatrees
Beware of "greenwashed" products and do your research
